This renovation and extension project reuses the concrete structure of the lower floor of a house built in the 1980s. We created a new floor level with the street (and supported on the existing structure) that allowed us to reorganize all the internal environments. Before, the garage was the only room with direct access to the pool. We transformed the old garage in the new living room and moved the cars and the service areas to the front of the lot. The new living room (the previous garage of the old house) is also the only room where it is possible to see the original concrete structure that was left exposed and received structural reinforcements and “grafts” to create fixed pieces of furniture. The bedrooms of the existing house were facing North (worst solar orientation in Brasília) with a ceiling height of 230 cm on the slab and the bathrooms facing south. We inverted these positions and repositioned all the bedrooms.
