This installation was selected and invited to take part of the  X São Paulo Architecture Biennial 2013

The ideia of building urbanity refers to the inevitable need of dialogue between public and private interests. In Brazil, while the city centers enjoy the strength of the urban life and the city´s outskirsts have only the minimum infrastructure, the upper middle class neighborhoods tend to isolate themselves. Each one tries to resolve their own necessities. Therefore, would it be possible to think in a gated community as the appropriate place to talk about urbanity?

Our proposal in the form of an installation, a temporary plaza that takes an architectural object, the Migliari Guimarães House , which was built inside a gated community in Brasília and partially rebuilds it in a new context of a public space. All the walls of the house were rebuilt to the height of 40 centimeters and transformed into wood blocks which are equivalent to benches. The starting point is the geometrical composition of the house. The transformation mechanism is the height reduction of all its limits. Now exposed to the public eye and diverted from its original and private nature, the question arises: how much of the private space could or should be public? With the help of smartphones it will be possible to virtually “visit” the real house through the reading of QRCodes that are attached to the installation. These codes will open specific photographs of different points of view of the built house.
