Oscar Niemeyer’s Tea House

BUILT

Brasília-DF, 2019

Honorable Mention at the “IAB Centenário” Award 2021 Centro Oeste Region, Interiors and Design Category

At Unesco’s invitation, we worked with the restoration and the temporary occupation of this important building in Praça dos Três Poderes, now used as a Tourist Assistance Center in the Federal District (CAT). In addition to the old Tea House (1966), the partnership between Unesco and the Department of Tourism will promote the reactivation of other CAT’s. Our intervention sought to recover original features of the project. We recovered the internal white marble, removed advertising stickers from the frames, pulled out box letters with graphics from the imbuia panel, removed old furniture and shelves from the hall, cleaned the Portuguese stones and recovered the finishes of the external area. The beautiful furniture is the work of colleague Samuel Lamas.

Original Project: Oscar Niemeyer
Restoration Project: Bloco Arquitetos – Daniel Mangabeira, Henrique Coutinho e Matheus Seco
Interior Design: Bloco Arquitetos + Samuel Lamas
Team Bloco Arquitetos: Luciana Ribeiro
Built Surface: 250m2
Project: 2019
Construction: 2019
