Beach Hut

The Beach Hut is part of the “Na Praia” complex. The project is located within a plot of land in the Club Sector in Brasília, with direct access to Lake Paranoá. The idea of the complex was to create an accessible “shoreline” around the lake, combining the typical scenography of the events that are promoted by the “Na Praia” brand with the landscape of the existing “cerrado” vegetation, the brazilian savanna. For this, most of the native trees were kept and other species of cerrado trees were inserted in combination with exotic vegetation and palm trees that adapted well to the local climate. The short deadline required for the construction works (100 days) guided the project and the choices we made in relation to construction methods and materials available. Our project for the “Beach Hut” uses a lightweight structure in welded “box” type steel profiles. In plan, the 300x300cm modulation aims to optimize the use and cutting/welding of metal parts. Natural bamboo was used as ventilated brises or ceiling shading (pergolas) and ceiling finishes. Light enclosures in cement boards or gypsum boards define the enclosed spaces. The roof of the double height “great hall” works as a natural “exhaust” of hot air through cross ventilation between the east and west gables, which are partially open. This hall has the same sandy floor as the outdoor surrounding areas.
