The “I” Building of Superblock 107 North, is a project built in 1966 designed by architect Mayumi Watanabe, who worked with names such as Vilanova Artigas, Joaquim Guedes and Lina Bo Bardi. The most interesting characteristic of the building is that its structure is distributed only in its perimeter walls in bare concrete and its central core, allowing great freedom in the arrangement of the internal walls. The project sought to recover some original features apartment, highlighting the freedom of internal organization that the building allows.

The perimeter walls in concrete, once covered by several layers of paint and plaster from previous reforms, were sanded several times until they again revealed their surface. We were interested in making apparent the vestiges of the process of “rediscovery” of bare concrete and the imperfections of its original execution. In the living room and bedrooms we use a certified natural wood flooring, a material widely used at the time of the original construction. But we used it in a format different from the one originally found. The bigger individual shape of the pieces is a feature of the current wooden floors, we were interested in making this clear in the intervention. We integrate the living room, kitchen and service area in a single space without doors. The difference between them is through the difference of paint, flooring or colors of the furniture. The large bookcase that goes through the living room and the kitchen functions as general organizer that separates the social and intimate areas. The toilet is hidden behind a panel door next to the kitchen. A large modular sofa makes it possible to use the room in various organization possibilities in small environments or in a single space.
